Meet Dindim, the Penguin Swimmer – 11 Pictures

A Brazilian fisherman, Joao Pereira saved a penguin from a certain death, near Rio de Janeiro. Joao found him stuck between the rocks, starved to death and covered by oil while he was still a baby. After he nurtured the penguin at his home and brought him back to life, Joao let him back into his natural habitat.

As a way of saying thank you, the penguin swims more than 8000 km every year to visit his savior. The fisherman even named the penguin Dindim, and they see each other every year, from June to February, when Dindim goes to Argentina and Chile coast to mate. Biologists are extremely surprised by this phenomenon, and claim they have never seen such a connection. When Dindim sees the old man, he starts waving his tail like a dog, and he probably sees Joao as a part of his family (which is the mutual feeling between the two of them).
