Moving Story of a Lifechanging Friendship
Owen Hawkins is 7-years-old and has Schwartz-Jampel syndrome, a rare genetic condition which causes his muscles to have constant involuntarily spasms. His lived a pretty enclosed and solitary life, had agoraphobia and refused to talk to anyone until he met, his now best friend, Haatchi.

Haatchi was also disabled. When he was still a puppy, he was tied to the railway and the passing train severed his tail and part of his rear leg. He managed to survive for 5 days before he was saved by the prominent UK animal rescue organization RSPCA. Unfortunately, his leg and large part of the tail had to be amputated due to the serious infection. After one botched adoption attempt, Haatchi found his way to the Hawking's home. The moment the boy and the dog made contact marked a birth of beautiful friendship.

Owen's mother said that his life vastly improved since he met Haatchi. He now talks to new people regularly and likes to introduce his three-legged friend even to complete strangers.

Haatchi recently received training and he's now a therapy dog, which means that he has skills to help little Owen in his daily routines.

In recognition to his service Haatchi even received International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) award for Animal of the Year. Let this story be a reminder to all of us how even the disabled are important part of our society and that they need love as much as we all do.
